On Monday, the High Representative of the European Union for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Catherine Ashton made a private visit to the Latvia Pavilion at the World EXPO, Shanghai. The High Representative viewed the Technology of Happiness and approved of the representation of Latvia at the World EXPO.
Catherine Ashton evaluated the Latvia Pavilion very positively, especially the architectonic quality of the Pavilion. The High Representative in particular praised the facade of the Pavilion, which is composed of 100 000 plastic plates that sway in the wind, which, in her view, is simply brilliant – an inspiring and amazing feeling has been achieved by simple means.
Catherine Ashton adored the performance of flying men and expressed a wish to return to the Pavilion to try out the Technology of Happiness by herself.
The Director of the Latvia Pavilion Ieva Lāce tells that it was a pleasure to welcome Catherine Ashton at the Latvia Pavilion. During a friendly conversation, Catherine Ashton made a nice impression and she was heartily glad about the excellence of the Latvia Pavilion.
The architectonic image of the Pavilion was created in Latvian architecture and design concept group Mailitis A.I.I.M., Ltd. The central element of the Pavilion is the Technology of Happiness – a vertical wind tunnel designed by a Latvian company AERODIUM.
The Latvia Pavilion at the World EXPO, Shanghai, has been built thanks to the support of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, state JSC Latvijas Dzelzceļš, Ventspils City Council, and Ventspils Free Port.
